Offshore Swimming - Bass Strait, November 14, 2026
This is something very few swimmers ever get to do.
If you are training for a significant ocean swim and have not experienced the feeling off being far from land, this is a great opportunity!
HOW IT WORKS
Meet your fellow swimmers at the Sorrento pier, where you will board your boat. We will then head out to Bass Strait, via the famous "Rip"! Even the boat trip there and back is something to behold as we transit the Port Phillip 'Heads'.
Group kayaker
You will be assigned to one of two or three groups, each with a kayaker. There will be plenty of space for you to swim in! You can take in your surrounds and find your rhythm.
Length of your swim
How long you swim for is up to you. We will be offshore for 2 hours. We will have some designated breaks and you will be welcome to hop back on the boat for a rest and re-enter the water after that.
Direction of your swim
We will work out the best path for you and the kayakers will guide you. We can pick any direction we want given the space we will have, so you can experience some differing feels within the deep swell.
Safety
We will have our main boat, a kayaker with your group and a paramedic. While we will not need to concern ourselves with tides, we will only proceed in weather that gives us an enjoyable trip.
Cost: $490 (Inc. GST)
Maximum 25 people
No refunds - please make sure you are available for both dates (10 & 11 October)
Inclusions
Boat trip there and back
Kayaker for your group providing additional safety, navigation and a feeling of security
Back up date if we strike bad weather (you need to make yourself available for this)
Post swim lunch in Sorrento (main + 1 standard drink)
Certificate to prove you have done Offshore Swimming!
An unforgettable time with likeminded swimmers
Some great tips, advice and no-doubt some stories from your leader Grant
Small snack on the boat (but probably good to also bring something that you know you like)
Schedule
Meet 9am
Start swimming - 10am
Finish swimming - 12 noon
Back at harbour - 1pm
